PRF: Pasture, Rangeland, and Forage

PRF insurance is designed to provide coverage for your perennial pasture, rangeland, or forage acres. Dry conditions can affect more than just your crops. If forage production decreases for grazing or for harvesting hay, you may end up paying more for feed, destocking, or depopulating livestock. You are not required to insure all of your acres, but you cannot exceed the total number of grazing or haying acres you operate. PRF is based on precipitation using the Rainfall Index for a 17-mile by 17-mile grid during a selected 2-month interval. A minimum of two and a maximum of six index intervals must be selected. Coverage levels are available at 90%, 85%, 80%, 75%, and 70%, and you can select between 60% and 150% of the County Based Value. The government subsidizes between 51% and 59% of your premium, depending on the coverage level you choose.
